How do I know if the oil filter is damaged?

Noise in the engine, less power, or overheating can indicate a damaged filter. If the filter is blocked, the lubricant could lose lubricity and cause friction. It could also lead to a reduction in the oil pressure and/or contamination of the exhaust gases with the lubricant.
